2021 Nov. San Francisco Trip USS Hornet

I visited the deck and island of the USS Hornet. The USS Hornet (CV-12) is pretty similar to the USS Lexington (CV-16). I've spent lots of time below deck on the Lexington, so I spent my time on the Hornet mostly above deck. The original wooden flight deck is still present with the hydraulic catapults visible.

I also visited the NB6GC radio club which is the official radio club on the USS Hornet. They have several Harris transceivers on loan from the United States Air Force with bandpass filters, each connected to an original antenna on the USS Hornet. I made several contacts on 21.250 MHz around 1PM local time.
