2023 Feb. QRP operation at Peers Park

I operated QRP from Peers Park in Palo Alto, California Lake Georgetown in Texas. I was using my Yaesu FT 818 with a vertical whip as an antenna. Over near the kids play ground are some benches. I was able to setup there with my antenna and stay out of the way of everyone. I did this several differnt nights. The biggest problem I had was the concrete under the benches would really pull the heat out of my feet, so I kept having to stand behind the bench.

I never made any contacts on 20m but could hear multiple DX stations. On 40m I made plenty of contacts in Arizona, California, Nevada, & Washington. On 80m I was also able to quickly get a QSO going with a station in Santa Barabara. It was very noisy so I just stuck to 40m however.

I need to either carry around a small amplifier or learn to operate CW.
